TownGreen announces that it has worked with the Town of Manchester and Harvard University’s Future of the American City Initiative to secure $500,000 in federal money via a congressionally directed spending request. Submitted by US Senators Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren and passed by Congress on December 23, 2022, the approved request will assist Cape Ann municipalities better understand how they can build local tools to prepare for and manage extreme weather events made worse by climate change. The focus on emergency preparedness will allow the four communities to work together to strengthen the region’s climate response. The money will further the research and development already in progress with the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Many thanks to Senators Markey and Warren for their support and stewardship; Dick Prouty, TownGreen board chair; Manchester-by-the-Sea Town Administrator, Greg Federspiel; and Valerie Nelson, Water Alliance.
